Happy Humpday!
Today, I wanted to share three products that I bought from ColourPop! I only bought three because I’ve never bought anything from them and wanted to test out some products. That’ll help me decide if I want to buy more from them. I purchased three lip products.
The first two are from ColourPop’s Lippie Stix line. Lippie Stix are a variety of different lip stick colours, that have different finishes.
1. Lippie Stix: Frida: $ 5.00
This is the color Frida, from the Lippie Stix collection, and it has a satin finish. The description on the website says, “A warm mid tone nude pink with a satin finish”. I was really excited to try this one out, but I was disappointed when I put it on. I really didn’t like the color on me, at all! They have a picture of their model wearing the color, but for some reason I forgot that I wasn’t the same skin tone as their model. My skin tone is very olive/medium/tan looking and the model in the photo is quite light compared to me. On her, Frida looks gorgeous. It looked like the description said it should, a very nude pink. But on me, it was way too bright. I looked like I was trying to pull of the “Nicki Minaj lips”, but I wasn’t doing it well. In the picture above, the packaging color definetely doesn’t match the actual color of the lipstick. The packaging makes it look much warmer than how it looks on me. It is quite sheer, so I had to build it up. I definetely didn’t leave the house with this one on. But I will say, it definetly has a satin finish. I like how weightless it feels on my lips, now I just need to find myself the right color. If you want to check this one out, click here.
2. Lippie Stix: Brink: $ 5.00
This is also from the Lippie Stix collection. It’s Brink and has a matte finish. They described it as, “A warm dusty taupe in a matte finish”. They also said that this one was inspired by Kylie Jenner. I love this one! It’s very close to my natural lip color, but more “taupe”. I do have to layer it on to get some color, but that’s not really a big deal to me. After you put it on and wait a couple minutes, it looks like it’s matte. But it does come off whenever I drink something or eat, so it’s not totally “matte”. I really like this as an every day type of color. On me, it comes off like a deep coral color with pink undertones, which is close enough to taupe for me. But on the model in the picture, it looks way lighter! It’s amazing how different color lips and skin can cause the same lipstick to look so different. If you are lighter, check out the model in the picture because mine definitely doesn’t look like that. This lipstick doesn’t last a long time either. With all the talking and eating I do, I reapply one layer almost every two hours, which is perfectly fine, just not expected since it’s supposed to be “matte”. But overall, I really like it! 3. Ultra Matte Lip: Beeper: $6.00
This one is my absolute favorite! The color is Beeper, which is in their Ultra Matte Lip Collection. This is a liquid lipstick and boy, did I have a hard time figuring it out. (I’m still learning, so don’t judge how it looks in that photo!) It’s my first liquid lipstick and I’m ready for more! They described this as, “call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me in this warm mid-tone taupe”, gotta love Kim Possible references!
As with all of these lippies, the color on me doesn’t show up like it does on the model…Brown girl probs. But, I still love the way it looks, even though it wasn’t what I was expecting. It looked more like a stony, frosted, taupe color, on their website. But on me, it’s more dark brown with violet mixed in. I love it! If you look at how the product looks inside the tube, it looks nothing it at all! Don’t judge these lipsticks by what their packaging colors are. They lie to you.
Since I had never tried a liquid lipstick, I had just put it on like normal. Geez, was that a mistake! What you’re supposed to do is exfoliate your lips first, then do it. They even put it on the directions, which I read afterwards. My lips were so gross and wrinkly/clumpy looking. It looked much better the next time I tried it, after I exfoliated my lips. Word of advice if you’re going to try liquid lipsticks, work fast! They dry pretty fast and can end up looking streaky if one part dries before the other. Or you could try layering it. What I do is outline my lips, then fill it in as fast as possible. But I’m still an amateur in this department. Another thing about this is that when you need to take it off, it’s almost impossible to do it without work. With the other two, I was able to wipe/wash them off. But this is made to be extremely long lasting, so it’s going to require effort. I tried washing it with hot water then wiping it with a towel, which worked after almost ten minutes. I read somewhere that putting Vaseline on it, then letting it sit, and then wipe it off with hot water would work. I tried that and it took about five minutes. If you guys know an easier way to get them off, let me know!
Even though this particular one requires more work, I’m still going to wear it. I saw a lot of beauty gurus on Youtube and Instagram, of all different skin tones, wearing this one particular color. I finally went on the website, saw that Beeper was only $6.00 and decided to get it. If you want to check them out click here!
Even though I didn’t like the first shade, Frida, it was only $5.00, which is better than buying a Mac lipstick for way more, and then not liking it. I’m very happy with the other two, especially Beeper! I recommend that if you see a shade you like, search it on google, instagram, youtube, etc, and find someone who is close to your skin tone/lips to see how it might look on you. Here’s some pictures, so that you guys can see the difference better.
For those of you who don’t know what ColourPop is, it’s a beauty company, that from what I understand, is only online. They have extremely affordable products. A quote from their ‘About Me’ says, “We think that whole barrier between fancy and affordable is absolute nonsense.” Doesn’t that statement just resonate with you? They are also animal-cruelty free! I just became a huge fan of this company and I’m deciding if I should splurge now or wait till Christmas to buy more…ah, the struggles.
Hope you guys enjoyed and let me know which one is your favorite!
