Hello everyone!
I’ve been seeing this viral blush technique all over Instagram and Tik Tok, and wanted to test it out for myself. Basically, people apply red or pink lipstick on their cheeks and nose. Then, they blend it out and apply foundation on top of it. It’s supposed to give off a “flushed look”.
My opinion before testing this out was: It’s all fake. I’m a skeptic. The videos shown on Instagram and Tiktok have filters or are edited in some form or another. Plus, all the ones I’ve seen are done inside with ring lighting or some other form of lighting that doesn’t show what it looks like in real life. Now, I won’t lie, some of them look really cute…hence, why I wanted to test them out. I did do a Youtube video on it, click here if you’d prefer to watch that.
I used the Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in the shade 25 Coral Sunset. Below is what I looked liked when I applied the lipstick to my cheeks and nose and blended it out. I took a photo with indoor lighting (facing the window), and outdoor lighting.

As you can see, it’s pretty obvious that there’s discoloration. I mean, there’s supposed to be discoloration, yes, but it’s still supposed to blend and go well with the rest of your face. To me, I look like that person that fell asleep with their glasses at the beach and now my face is sunburnt, but my eyes are my skin-tone.
My thoughts on this trend: It’s a waste of time and product for half your face to look like an oompa-loompa. I look like I’ve been skiing…I’ve never been skiing. For me, this trend is not wearable. I think the majority of people who did this look edited their videos to make it passable or the lighting helped it look doable.
Let me know what you guys think about this makeup trend!
