Small Apartment Dining Set

Today, I wanted to share some new furniture pieces I purchased. When I first moved into my apartment, I was on that “fresh out of school” budget, so a lot of my items are more on the lower quality side and don’t currently fit in with my vibe now.

I had this small, square, white table and two matching chairs set from Ikea. It was pretty inexpensive and good enough for a small seating area. It just wasn’t…appealing to my eye, especially as a little dining area. It was more suited for a small outdoor patio, rather than inside furniture. The whiteness of it also threw of the balance of my apartment, so I decided now was the time for a change.

For the table, I wanted something larger, but keep in mind, my dining area is extremely small. The table I purchased was from Amazon. It’s called the Hoobro Dining Table and is a rectangular shape. The measurements are 47” x 23.6” x 30.3” (L x W x H). It’s long, but narrow. This is more suited for a desk, rather than a dining table, but I wanted something I could sit with my laptop and be comfortable. I typically eat on my couch, so it doesn’t bother me too much.

I really like the look of it, but don’t be fooled. The wood is just laminate, not actual wood. But, I only paid $63.00 for it, so I’m not too mad. The biggest issue with this is the frame. It’s a manufacturer’s issue, basically two of the legs aren’t as straight as the other two, because the way it was welded or however they did it, doesn’t allow the two legs to sit completely flush against the rest of the frame. Therefore, two legs aren’t straight, but I fit in some cardboard underneath the table, where the leg and frame meet to force it to be straight. It’s a little ratchet, but it worked.

Would I recommend this table? If you’re looking for real wood and no issues with building it, I would say no. If you’re more on the side of needing an inexpensive table, and wanted a wood table without the high cost and don’t need it to be perfect, this might be for you. But again, keep in mind it’s super narrow, but long, more like a desk, rather than a dining table.

Let’s move onto the really nice items I got: the chairs! They’re from Target and are the 2-piece Copley Upholstered Dining Chairs. I purchased them in Forest Green for $110, which is pretty good, basically $55.00 per chair. They come in a lot more colors, so definitely check it out if you liked the general look. I am in loveee with these chairs. I need to buy two more, but definitely great quality.

The legs are those really nice tapered legs and they look like wood, but they’re actually metal. I love the dark green color. They were super easy to build. The legs already came done, so all I had to do was screw the seat to the legs, extremely easy. Also, shipping was fast. It only took one business day to get here. Definitely would recommend these chairs!

Overall, the chairs were definitely a good quality buy that will last me a long time. The table on the other hand…I’m not too sure how many years the laminate will hold up and look, but we’ll see. I think it’s really great for a desk and gives off that nice wood vibe, without the hefty price tag.
