Black Opal: True Color Stick Foundation SPF 15 Review

Hello everyone!

Today I wanted to share my review on the Black Opal True Color Stick Foundation with SPF 15. I was really excited to try my first Black Opal product. I really want to start giving money to cosmetic companies who really push diversity, and I thought Black Opal was the perfect place to start. They have the perfect shades for women and men of color. I’m Indian, with a medium-olive complexion and I was able to find my perfect shade, which is Cashew.

First of all, the packaging of the product is the most convenient packaging I’ve ever witnessed. FYI, this is my first stick foundation ever, so I didn’t realize how nice and easy it was. It’s basically a small cylinder, all black, with the company and foundation information on it. It has a cap that’s clear at the top, and you just have to turn the cylinder to get the product to come up. It’s so easy, hygienic, and not messy at all.

To apply this product to my face, I basically drew lines all over my face with it, since the product is in a nice compact case. It’s a cream type of product, and the description states it gives you a velvety-matte finish.

I applied this product two different ways: one half of my face I did it with a brush, the other half I used a beauty sponge from Real Techniques. I don’t recommend a beauty sponge because for me, it didn’t blend very well at all. I liked how it blended out with a regular face brush, but I did spray my brush with the Mario Badescu rose water and aloe spray.

The coverage is medium to full. I have quite a few dark spots from acne, and I did about two layers and they were all covered up. Also, my redness was perfectly covered as well.

Unfortunately, this product did not work for me. In the pictures below, you can see that it left my skin looking streaky, dry, and very bad overall. Before applying the foundation, I moisturized, applied primer, and I have oily skin, so it doesn’t make any sense as to why my skin looked like that. I’m not sure if it’s because I have textured skin and large pores.

I really wanted this foundation to work out, so I waited a couple days and tried it again, thinking maybe it was something I did wrong, but I still received the same result.

I found the Black Opal brand in a Walmart near me, but this is the only Walmart around me that it’s in. From what I understand, it just varies by area, and it could be found in Walgreens, RiteAid, etc, depending on where you are. You can also check out their website by clicking here. I paid about $10 for it, which I think is good for the amount of product you get and how creamy it is. If it had worked for me, it would be even better.

Just because this product didn’t work out for me, doesn’t mean it won’t work for you. The reason I purchased this one specifically is because of all the great reviews, but because of my bad luck, it didn’t work for me. If I looked at myself from a couple feet away, the foundation looked really good. Like a better version of my skin, but up close, it was obviously streaky and dry looking.

I will definitely continue trying more Black Opal products, because just because one product didn’t work for me, doesn’t mean the others won’t. If you guys have any recommendations for Black Opal or from any cosmetic company similar to them, I would love to hear it.

Thank you for reading!

July 4th OOTD

Hello everyone!

I hope you guys are having a great 4th! I wanted to share what I wore. Also, I love seeing everyone wearing basically the same colors, it’s like we’re all in “uniform”.

I’m wearing a red tank top and dark denim vest from Forever 21. I decided to wear black leggings because it was going to rain, and some navy vans. I went with pearls for my white.

That’s about it! Hope you guys enjoyed and had a great 4th of July!

I LOVE my off white crochet skirt from Charlotte Russe. I actually found it in the clearance section for about $7, which is a steal. It’s so cute! I love pairing it with my denim shirt from Hollister.

The shirt is super old and has been washed so much, it has that denim to bleach effect. I personally like that look because it just looks super chill.

I love pairing this dressy skirt, with my casual top. I paired it with a white tank top and black sandals. Hope you guys like it!

Review: Trader Joe’s Face Lotion SPF 15

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share my thoughts on the Trader Joe’s Enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 15…whoa, is that a mouthful or what?

I purchased this around March because I was interested in a moisturizer with SPF. Most of the time, my makeup has SPF in it, but there were some that didn’t and I wanted to add this to my daily routine. I purchased this from Trader Joe’s for about $10.

It is in a nice little bottle and the product is white. It feels like your basic moisturizer, nice and smooth. It’s easy to apply and after giving it about 10-15 minutes to absorb, I find that it doesn’t leave too much of a greasy feeling. I only feel it in my super oily spots like my t-zone and cheeks. Nothing a little bit of powder can’t fix.

Unfortunately, this product did not work for me. I didn’t notice until two weeks ago that it was causing breakouts on my forehead. I tend to have acne on my cheeks, but I’ve never really broken out on my forehead. It was just a lot of really small pimples, which would take forever to come to a head.

At first, I didn’t put two and two together. My mom asked if I tried anything new, and then I thought about the lotion. But I thought that it couldn’t be because the rest of my face was not breaking out as bad. Eventually, I decided to test out not using it for two days, and lo and behold, my forehead breakouts started healing.

It’s so odd, because I put it all over my face, but only my forehead was affected. But the lotion was the culprit and now my forehead is virtually clear.

I’m not sure why it did that, but I’ll let you guys know what type of skin I have and maybe if you have the same issues, you can avoid this product. I have oily skin, prone to acne on my cheeks and chin. I’ve used many products and have almost never had breakouts from them, only the NYX color corrector palette.

I hope you guys found this helpful! Let me know if you’ve tried the lotion and if it worked out for you.

Quick and Easy Summer Eye Tutorial Ft. Toofaced Sweet Peach Palette

Hello my lovelies!

Today, I wanted to share a quick and easy summery eye look. This has been my go-to look eye look when I’m in a rush. I am using shadows from the Toofaced Sweet Peach Palette, but feel free to use similar colors and customize the look.

SweetPeachShadowsAmandaSushma

I used the Candied Peach shadow (middle row, third from the left), all over my lids. Then, I just added some depth to my outer-V with Summer Yum, (bottom row, second from the right). I blended them out and added more eye shadow as needed. I love how these two colors look together. They really give that perfect summer look that’s been trending right now. The effortless looking pink/orange shadows are really in. It doesn’t take long at all to do and I feel like this super easy look can look great on a range of skin tones. Also, if you have the Sweet Peach palette, the shadows smell amazing.

I add a lighter color to my brow bone, such as Georgia to give a little highlight in that area. I like to add a wing and mascara to finish off the look.

I hope you guys enjoyed and let me know if you like this look! Also, follow me on Instagram @amandasushma to see more looks. Thanks for reading!

Kaepop Colourpop Lip Swatch

Hello everyone!

Sorry for not posting lately! That’s going to change, I swear. But today, I have a COLOURPOP LIPSWATCH for you guys. I love Colourpop and I really like Karrueche Tran. Colourpop had a 20% off sale, so I purchased the Colourpop x Karrueche Kpop collection.

Without further ado, here they are:

Saigon: Ultra Matte Lip

I usually stay away from reds because I think they look weird on my skin tone, but I absolutely love this! Such a beautiful red and it lasts basically all day. It’s a true red and ultra matte.

Chi: Ultra Matte Lip

At first, I thought that this color was too light for me, but turns out it’s a really good nude for tan/medium skin. On fairer skin, it looks like a mauve/brown. I recommend searching on Youtube and Instagram for people who are similar skin tones to you for this color.

Rooch: Ultra Matte Lip

This lip is the ultra vampy purple lip! I love it. It’s a very deep wine color and I think anyone can rock this!

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer Review

Hello everyone!

Today, I wanted to share a review on the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer Foundation. I’ve been using it for about two months and I really like it!

What it claims: Lightweight, moisturizing, does not clog pores, skin breathes, color is true (through sweat and humidity), one dip of the wand is enough for your entire face, and 12 hours of full-coverage.

At first, the foundation seemed a little darker than what I had swatched at the stoere, but it eventually adjusted and with some blending, it became the right color. They state that on the directions too, the first time you use it it might look darker because the pigment is so rich, but just blend it out.

I have acne prone skin and so far, this foundation has not broken me out. I have one or two zits here and there, but not enough to be from the foundation, especially since I use it everyday.

I have oily skin, so I was nervous when the foundation said it was moisturizing, but there was nothing to fear. The foundation on my forehead, chin, temple, and outer cheek area stay put throughout the day. I typically where makeup for about eight to ten hours, so I think that’s a decent amount of time. The foundation around my lips and nose/pore area tends to settle into a couple lines. I figure it’s because I’m oily and when I talk and drink, of course it’s going to settle into those fine lines. Recently, I started using the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder, and it has helped reduce that effect, but of course, it’s not totally gone. The method that helped me is instead of pressing it in with a damp beauty blender, I used a powder puff and really pressed the powder into my pores. I haven’t broken out or anything, and my oiliness has reduced quite a bit.

With oily skin, primers are a necessity. Recently, I’ve been using the NYX Photoready Primer all over my face and the NYX Pore Primer on the larger pores around my nose. these primers have really helped the foundation stay in place.

The coverage is perfect. It’s full-coverage and you don’t need that much product. Usually one dip is enough for me. It takes care of my dark spots and hyper-pigmentation very well!

I love that it’s also good for concealing at the same time. Perfect 2 in 1 product. I would recommend using the tip end of the brush to conceal blemishes. I like how it covers up dark spots and blemishes, but I hate how it makes my under-eyes look. Definitely use an actual under-eye concealer for dark circles. I think that since my under-eyes are so dark and different from the color of my face, it gives it a weird shade compared to the rest of the foundation on my face.

The price is not that bad for a brand like Clinique. I purchased mine from Belk for $28, which is actually very inexpensive for the amount you get, which is 1 oz. There are some foundations that are more expensive and you get less product, so the price doesn’t bother me at all.

I really like the packaging as well! It’s in a long, glass bottle, which usually I wouldn’t like, but it’s thick enough to where it has a smaller chance of breaking if I drop it, (which I have done, multiple times).

Also, the applicator is interesting. It’s not my favorite, but I don’t hate it. It’s a neutral feeling. I do like that the brush picks up a lot of product, and the claim that one dose of the brush is enough is totally true! I just dot it all around my face and that’s enough.

Overall, I think this is a great foundation. It’s not mattifying by any means, but with some primer and setting powder, people with oily skin can definitely use this. The coverage is amazing and you can use it for targeting blemishes at the same time. The price is not crazy and you get a decent amount. FOUNDATION APPROVED.
